Rekindling the Nankeen Flame

Having its roots in the Silk Road, blue nankeen is 100% cotton fabric with artistic hand-printed designs made with indigo dye. The fabric was historically used for drapes, tablecloths, and everyday clothing.

When the art was born over three thousand years ago, hand-carved wooden stencils were used to impress prints onto the fabric. Today, heavy paper is cut up and stuck to the cotton instead.
